Griffin Announces Retirement

May 24, 2021

Douglas E. Griffin, Vice President and General Counsel at The Baptist Foundation of California, has announced his retirement.

Serving the Foundation since 2008, Doug has been a prominent Foundation leader assisting individuals, families, and churches with documents that help secure future ministry funds.  In addition, he has worked on key projects during some of the most dynamic periods of the Foundation’s history.

However, it is the legacy of relationships of which he is most proud.

“You cannot overstate Doug’s impact on the lives of charitably minded believers in California,” said Jonathan Jarboe, President of the Foundation.  “His personable manner and Kingdom-minded approach have helped hundreds develop and implement creative strategies to resource families and ministries.

During his time at the Foundation, Doug has managed estate planning, planned-giving, probate and trust administration, serving as counsel on numerous projects and operational issues. Prior to coming to the Foundation, he was a partner with the law firm of Lang, Richert, and Patch in Fresno and was in private practice for 15 years.  Before his legal career, he worked as a paralegal specialist for the Internal Revenue Service and in public relations for the Oakland Raiders.

Doug has also served on various other boards and committees for organizations, including the Clovis Unified School District, the American Cancer Society, and Leadership Fresno. Griffin received his Bachelor of Arts and Master in Business Administration degrees from San Jose State University and graduated with honors from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1993.

His legal career has been more than paralleled by what he calls his “vocation” at his church, Clovis Hills Community Church in Clovis, California.  He has been a member there for 24 years and has served in various capacities, including trustee, small group leader, greeter, actor, and even softball coach.  But he found his true passion when he wandered into children’s ministry.

“Teacher Doug” as he is affectionately known, has taught kids for more than two decades of service, leading hundreds of kids to faith in Christ and baptizing dozens as well.

Doug, his wife Doris, and their daughter, Paige, are moving to Texas to begin their retirement years.  They will be joining their son, Joe, and his family, which includes two grandsons, Lucas and Ethan.

In the days ahead, Doug will be staying in close contact with the Foundation, ensuring appropriate connections are maintained.

“God has been faithful to bring dedicated Christian lawyers into the organization, and Doug has certainly the best of that tradition,” says Jarboe. “With his advice and counsel, I am confident the transition will go smoothly as he passes the baton to the next lawyer God has for this ministry.”
